Cam Newton not happy ref Ed Hochuli said he wasn't 'old enough' to get call

Cam Newton should be happy, since his Carolina Panthers are 3-0 after beating the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. But he was irked by a comment from referee Ed Hochuli.

After a non-call on what Newton thought was a late hit by the Saints, no penalty flag was thrown and Newton said Hochuli told him he "wasn't old enough to get that call," via Eric Boynton of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.

“I’m looking at (Hochuli) like, What? Geez, I didn’t think you had to have seniority to get a personal foul or anything like that," Newton said, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.

Although Hochuli could have just been cracking a joke, Newton didn't seem to be in on the gag. Reed noted that Newton was not happy with Hochuli's comment.

“Heaven forbid he gets any rookies," Newton said about Hochuli, via Reed, "they’re going to have a long day, man.”

It's not like star systems don't exist in sports how many times have we heard that you need to reach a certain status in the NBA to get calls? but it's a little unusual to hear a star like Newton share what is said on the field like that and voice his displeasure with an official. Hochuli is a longtime veteran, so it's also a bit strange that Newton's criticism was directed his way.

It also might not help Newton get any future calls from Hochuli's fellow officials.
