Emails show that members of Boise State's athletic department, including then-coach Chris Petersen, knew of former defensive end Sam Ukwuachu's violent incident with a former girlfriend while he was at Boise State.
Ukwuachu, who transferred from Boise State to Baylor after he was dismissed from the Broncos' football team, was convicted of sexual assault of a former Baylor soccer player on Thursday. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years probation.

According to Texas Monthly, emails from Boise State assistant athletic director Marc Paul outline a situation between Ukwuachu and the woman that occurred from May 2-5, 2013. The events also led Ukwuachu to have a cut wrist from punching a window. You can see the emails below, and they reveal that Petersen was informed about the circumstances.
Ukwuachu was dismissed from the team shortly afterwards.
Petersen has said he "thoroughly" informed Baylor coach Art Briles of the reasons behind Ukwuachu's dismissal at Boise State when the defensive end was transferring to the school in Texas. His statement was in response to Briles saying Petersen had only said Ukwuachu was depressed and needed to be closer to home.
Briles released another statement Friday evening that said he was not informed of any violence towards women while Ukwuachu was at Boise State and only of a "rocky relationship." The school also released transfer documents that show Ukwuachu was cleared to transfer to Baylor and had no eligibility issues at Boise State.
However, it's important to note that dismissal from the football team is different than a university punishment. And we're likely never going to know the exact contents of the phone conversation.
Ukwuachu did not play for Baylor in 2013 and 2014. He had 4.5 sacks for Boise State in 2012. A previous report from Texas Monthly alleged that Baylor and Waco police mishandled the sexual assault case involving Ukwuachu and the former soccer player. While the incident occurred in October 2013, he was not indicted until June of 2014.
